What is My Dog Saying
at the Dog Park?

Power Point presentation, now on CD!

Have you considered taking your dog to a dog park, but aren't sure if you should? Do you want to learn more about reading dog body language and what good play and bad play looks like, so you can keep your dog safe when playing with other dogs?

Are you a dog class instructor, dog day care or boarding kennel owner who would like a ready-made presentation for staff and clients on dog-to-dog play and dog park safety?

Would you like to offer a safety and etiquette class to your community to give them the tools they need to better read and understand their dogs - and keep everyone safer?

Not every dog is, or should be, a "dog park dog"! The safety and enjoyment of dog parks depends on one thing- dog owner education. This presentation will help teach dog owners watching off-leash play how to recognize red flags and when to step in and help their dog out of a risky situation.

Have you been wishing you had photos and video to
present to staff, fellow trainers and clients, but just don't have
the time to collect them all? We've done the work for you!

These CDs include over 100 slides featuring still photos as well as video clips of dogs speaking dog.

Testimonials:

“Ever wonder what your dog is really thinking when you pat him on the head? This PowerPoint presentation is like a web lesson about dog language. At present, there are a couple of books out there on the same subject, but those books rely on still photographs as illustrations. This PowerPoint uses live-action video clips embedded right where you need them, which is a powerful tool—and also shows the speed at which these things can change.

It will teach you to be a better observer of your dog and improve your understanding of your dog. I picked up a couple of things myself that I had never noticed before. Highly recommended.”

Hi Carol:

I used your video "What is my Dog Saying?" tonight at a talk I gave at the local library on dog body language! It was a big hit. I felt very prepared and able to explain everything because your video provided the back up. Thank you again for a great product!!

Hi Carol:

I just got a chance to watch the CD and I think it is great! I can tell that you put a lot of time and effort into the presentation, and the video clips are golden.

I work for a group of referral veterinary hospitals in New England providing behavior consultations for dogs and cats. I did my post-doctoral work with Drs. Nick Dodman and Alice Moon-Fanelli at the Tufts Animal Behavior Clinic in MA and am now setting up shop on my own. I am preparing a lecture for veterinary technicians on canine and feline behavior and proper handling/restraint. I am sure that your slides will come in useful for them to drive the point home and increase their understanding and awareness when working with painful, aggressive, or anxious dogs at the hospital. Thank you so much for making this!

Cost of the lecture is $35 per household.

Dear Carol,

I just wanted to send a quick note to let you know what a HUGE success our first Canine Communication Seminar was! We had a full house (75 people!) with a waiting list for the next one, and raised over $2000 for the Irvine Animal Care Center! Feedback was all positive and we're hoping to do another one in a few months.

Thank you again for creating such an awesome presentation and for your generosity in allowing others to share this valuable information with dog owners/caretakers everywhere. We'll hopefully be able to send more CD orders your way from sunny CA. :-)

Warm regards,
Faith

Dear Carol,

Thank you for sending me a copy of "What Is My Dog Saying." I have used it for my Level II program at Kutztown University which is for students who want to become canine behavior consultants. The students loved it and I did too. What I especially liked was the fact that the CD is mostly stills. This allowed my students to study the body language of dogs. It is difficult for students to see many of the subtle things that dogs say when they only have moving clips to look at. The blend of moving clips with the stills was very helpful. Thank you for doing a great job.

Dear Carol,

What a wonderful tool you've created. It is worth every cent of whatever I paid (can't remember, but it was reasonable). A very good and thorough job that will help anyone who watches it. I've been doing day care for 8 years and it brought things to my attention that I had let slip. My employees were amazed -- it was so easy for them to see what I've been trying to show them, but in real life you can't catch and preserve the moment.

Hallo Miss Byrnes,

With many interest I’ve looked and studied your CD “What’s my dog saying” and must say; you did a lot of good work to let people see how canine-communication is working.
Every dog-owner should be see this CD! I have 3 Shelties and after seeing your CD I look with other eyes to them.
Your dogs must be HAPPY DOGS.
My English is not so good so forgive me if I make a mistake.
I’m from Holland, live in Germany and most of the time we speak Dutch or German.

I wish you all the best!
With kind regards,

Arnaud Timmermans

Carol,

The CD is awesome. I have used it during my talks at my local Humane Society where I volunteer as the behavior consultant and Open Paw Instructor for dogs. Teaching other volunteers about body language and recognizing sign of stress in shelter dogs is so important to me.

I recently shared the CD with a doggie daycare I consult with and the owner loved and has her staff watch and they ask me questions!

You did a great job with it, and I looked at and ordered many before yours.

From a Dog Rescue and Prison Training Program in New Springfield, OH:

Carol, Thank you so much! This is just what I need for the guys to watch! So many times I try to explain the behavior they are seeing but by the time I say anything the behavior is gone or it has changed! This presentation is going to be a Godsend! I am also going to force all volunteers with the rescue to also watch it before being able to do any dog to dog introductions!

The guys at the prison really liked the presentation. It clarified things for them that I had been trying to 'catch' during training sessions. Several of the guys have remarked that they know when to separate some of the dogs now, as they can tell when something is "brewing" between them. Many of them are starting to point out different body signals to me now instead of me trying to get them to see what I see! They are also more confident when some of the dogs are just being dogs... they don't separate for just playing now, as the guys have a better idea of when its play and when its "for real". The fact that there was video and stills is what many of them like, it let them see how quick some of the movements are.

The trainer report sheets have gotten better as well, because now, when they write the weekly report on the dogs, they are using terms like appeasement and muzzle punch, and I don't have to ask for as much clarification.

I have also shared this with some of my fellow rescue workers, as they do adoptions and since it is our rescues policy to have currently owned dogs meet and greet the dog being adopted before we finalize the adoption. It has helped them tell the difference between an okay reaction and one that might be trouble. One of our ladies said she feels better knowing that she can "read" the dogs a bit better and explain it to the new parents as well. Anyway, I am going to quit rambling on and just say "Thank you" for such a wonderful and useful tool!
