Fritz the Wonder Dog
Shared by student Gerry Krueger

My kids had dogs, my husbands had dogs but I had never in my whole life had a dog of my own until Fritz and taking him to your puppy classes changed my life forever.

Everyday started the same.. I would get my socks and that was his cue to rush to his position by the couch and wait with great anticipation while I hid my shoes. I slowly put my socks on to heighten the suspense and then on signal he tore through the house to find the shoes and of course I cheered and clapped all the while (Maggie refused to do tricks but would come sit and expect a treat as each shoe arrived.) As he was stricken with DM and in wheels at the end we changed the game and I got the shoes and he found the socks... Still wild clapping and cheering.. Without your classes I hadn't a clue how to train a dog but of course Fritz was so eager that it made it easier...

A Hard Act to Follow

When other puppies were learning to sit and stay,
Fritz was learning the first of his bell tricks…
At “puppy show and tell” everyone said:
“That Fritz is a hard act to follow.“

When thing were slow in the shop, Fritz did
His routine and everyone would clap. He loved it….
So to hear the clapping, he’d do his whole act again.
At any event where people clapped for performers,
Fritz assumed it was for him, barked and took a bow.

Fritz was hard act to follow.

He was fun-loving, independent, sassy, assertive,
A charmer, and loved being the center of attention.
We took lessons for dance routines with your dog
So we could take an act “on the road.”
Fritz was a regular Fred Astaire;
But, alas, I was no Ginger Rogers!

Fritz was a hard act to follow.

He slept on my bed every night of his life.
His fur was the last thing I touched before sleep,
And the first thing I touched in the morning.
He licked my wounds when I was hurt,
Dried my tears when I was sad,
And made me laugh every day… Oh, how I loved him..

Fritz will be a hard act to follow….

Fritz rolls out the red carpet when guests come.

I bought a couple rag rugs and dyed them red and cut them in half lengthwise. Started with a small section
with a treat rolled up and kept adding more carpet...Since it always involved copious cheering
and clapping, it was one of his favorite tricks... He should've been in vaudeville.
